As Earth’s population continues to climb from the 3 billion inhabitants in 1960 to the 9 billion projected by 2040 , scarcity of land and material resources will increase in magnitude as issues we must address.

While the primary drawback of required capital investment is being addressed with an increasingly eager private and commercial investment community, the technology itself has several advantages:

• Safety: None of the lethal waste that comes with nuclear power, and none of the health-threatening emissions and global-warming carbon emissions of coal-fueled power plants.
  
• Efficiency: Maglev technology allows power to be generated at wind speeds as low as 6.7mph, bringing the projected cost per kwh to below 1 cent per kwh and making it the low-cost leader.
  
• Land usage impact: a single large-scale turbine will consume no more than 100 acres (including storage and transmission equipment) and provide more power than a conventional wind farm consuming 46,000 acres, allowing this technology to be placed closer to population centers and greatly reducing power lost and wasted in long-distance transmission.
  
• Jobs: U.S. jobs in this industry grew by 70 percent in 2008, and despite a global recession the American Wind Power industry is exceeding a 12 percent growth rate in 2009.
